ALL class ages and levels are dependent upon experience/maturity.

 

Instructors have ultimate discretion on student placement to best meet the needs of

the individual student and the  class as a whole. The first weeks of classes will be for

placement and assessment. Schedule may change, times and levels  may be adjusted

to fit demand. Please inquire if you have a question about placement.

 

 

RAD Ballet (In affiliation with Maple Leaf School of Ballet) ~ The Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) is a worldwide organization committed to training excellent dancers and teachers in sound technique, a full range of ballet elements including free movement and character dance, and providing an assessment and exam system which is accepted as a leader Internationally. Exams also gain Graduation credits. Each child is ready at different times for exams. The instructor makes her recommendations based on individual suitability, attendance, focus, understanding and grasp of the exercises required, strength and technique. Exams are optional.

 

For ALL classes, correct ballet uniform must be worn. See Royal Academy of Dance dress code.

  • Pre Primary (.75 hours) Ages 5 – 7 years
  • Primary (.75 hours) Minimum Age 7 or completed 1 year of Pre Primary
  • Grade 1 (1 hour) By experience (includes character)
  • Grade 2 (2 hours) Teen beginner and continuing students (2x/week)
  • Grade 3 (2 hours) By experience (2x/week)
  • Grade 4 (2 hours) By experience (2x/week)
  • Grade 5 (2 hours) By experience (2x/week)
  • Intermediate (3 hours) By experience (2x/week)
  • Advanced (3 hours) By experience (2x/week)
  • Pre Pointe/PBT (.75 hours) Ages 12 + teacher recommendation

(Stretching, strengthening exercises geared toward preparation for beginner pointe work)

 

Ballet 1 (.75 hours)

Age 5 – 8 ~ Recreational ballet incorporating basic center, barre and traveling movements. Improvisation and simple choreography emphasize the joy of dancing.

 

Tap 1 (.75 hours)

Age 4 – 6 ~ Beginning to learn basic tap steps and explore more complex rhythms while still having fun.

 

Tap 2 (.75 hours)

Age 7 - 9 ~ Focus on quality and dynamics of sound while still having fun! A strong foundation in tap technique while incorporating the latest trends of music and dance.

 

Tap 3 (.75 hours)

Age 10 & Up ~ A level up for progression! A strong foundation in tap technique while incorporating the latest trends of music and dance.

 

Tap 4 (.75 hour)

By placement or assessment ~ By placement or assessment ~ Progressing techniques and rhythms. A variety of music and choreography to increase performance and style.

 

Tap 5 (.75 hour)

By placement or assessment ~ By placement or assessment ~ Progressing techniques and rhythms. A variety of music and choreography to increase performance and style.

 

Tap Hop 1 (.75 hours)

Age 5 – 7 ~ Combines tap and hip hop into one class to fun upbeat music.

 

Tap Hop 2 (.75 hours)

Age 8 and up ~ Combines tap and hip hop into one class to fun upbeat music.

 

Hip Hop 1 (.75 hours)

Age 5 – 7 ~ Learn trendy moves of hip hop and dance to popular upbeat music. Boys try a class for free!

 

Hip Hop 1.5 (.75 hours)

Age 8 – 10 ~ Learn trendy moves of hip hop and dance to popular upbeat music. Boys try a class for free!

 

Hip Hop 2 (.75 hour)

Age 11 and up ~ A level up to progress tap and hip hop technique to popular upbeat music.

 

Hip Hop 2.5 (.75 hour)

By placement ~ A level up for the more experienced dancer. An depth, high energy class that incorporates all the latest, diverse hip hop styles and trends while still allowing you to develop your own personal style.

 

Hip Hop 3 (1 hour)

Age 14 & up or by placement ~ An in depth, high energy class that incorporates all the latest, diverse hip hop styles and trends while still allowing you to develop your own personal style.

 

Musical Theatre (.75 hour)

Age 7 & up ~ A fun class combining dance movements with an emphasis on developing acting, singing and performance skills. Routines and combinations are inspired by the popular musicals and movies.

 

Broadway Jazz (1 hour)

Age 11 & up ~ Jazz based technique with steps, styles and routines inspired from Broadway musicals.

NEW Junior heel black character shoes required for class.

 

Jazz 3 (.75 hour)

Age 7 - 9 ~ A true Jazz class incorporating techniques, steps and routines, building up from the intro level.

 

Jazz 4 (1 hour)

Age 9 - 11 ~ Expand your jazz technique and moves, a level up from the previous level.

 

Jazz 5 (1.25 hours)

Teen or by placement ~ For those dancers with previous Jazz dance experience and looking for a strong Jazz technique class with warm up, cross floor, routines and choreography.

 

Jazz 6 (2.25 hours)

By placement/assessment ~ A progression for the experience, intermediate senior Jazz dancer. Warm up, cross floor, routines and choreography. This course is mandatory 2 DAYS per week and includes 1 hour of stretch, turns and conditioning class.

Enrollment in ballet is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for this jazz level.

 

Jazz 7 (2.25 hours)

By placement/assessment ~ A progression for the experience, senior Jazz dancer. Warm up, cross floor, routines and choreography. This course is mandatory 2 DAYS per week and includes includes 1 hour of stretch, turns and conditioning class.

Enrollment in ballet is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for this jazz level.

 

Jazz 8 (2.25 hours)

By placement/assessment ~ A progression for the experienced, senior Jazz dancer. Warm up, cross floor, routines and choreography. This course is mandatory 2 DAYS per week and includes includes 1 hour of stretch, turns and conditioning class.

Enrollment in ballet is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for this jazz level.

 

Lyrical 2 (.75 hour)

Age 10 and up ~ An intro class. Lyrical dance is expressive and focuses on conveying musicality and emotion through movement. Ballet is strongly recommended. Younger dancers with ballet background may be assessed for the class.

 

Lyrical 3 (1 hour)

By placement/assessment ~ Lyrical dance is expressive and focuses on conveying musicality and emotion through movement.

Ballet highly recommended.

 

Lyrical 4 (1 hour)

By placement/assessment ~ Lyrical dance is expressive, focusing on conveying musicality and emotion through movement. MANDATORY enrollment in ballet is REQUIRED for this level.

 

Senior Lyrical (1 hour)

By placement/assessment ~ Lyrical dance is expressive, focusing on conveying musicality and emotion through movement. MANDATORY enrollment in ballet is REQUIRED for this jazz level.

 

 

Contemporary 2 - TBA

Age 9 and up ~ Contemporary modern dance technique and creativity to a wide range of music. A physically challenging and expressive dance style. Taking a ballet class is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

 

Contemporary 3 - TBA

By placement/assessment ~ Contemporary modern dance technique and creativity to a wide range of music. A physically challenging and expressive dance style, it is defined by its athletic character. For dancers who like a challenge. Must attend 2x/week.

 

CREW

By placement/audition ~ For dancers age 11 and up with experience in Hip Hop. Audition required. A performance class with opportunity for performances, events and conventions. Learn multiple dances with different choreographers. Crew will combine with Company for dances, rehearsals, performances, events. Must be registered in a Hip Hop class to audition and enroll.

COMPANY

Ages 9 & up ~ Company class focuses on choreography & performance presentation, working in multiple dance styles and with many choreographers. Dancers will build a choreography repertoire to perform throughout the community. It provides dancers with opportunity to work with different Sooke Dance Studio instructors and as well as guest choreographers. Focus on all dance styles including entertainment jazz, tap, hip hop, modern, musical theatre and ballet to highlight your technical strengths.

Elite Company (by placement only) is for experienced dancers (multiple genres recommended). Dancers must have ability to work at advanced technical level, pick up choreography quickly and be committed with a positive attitude.

 

New Elite XL – a branch of Elite Company giving dancers more opportunities such as group, solo or duet Festival choreography during company time, participating in outreach programs teaching workshops at schools or community programs, more opportunity for travel including workshops, performances and special trips. These opportunities may possibly include other company or crew members at the discretion of Carole and the choreographers. Any Festival or competition pieces and dancers will be decided by Carole and the choreographer.

 

.Company class has 2 mandatory components – technique and choreography – and has specific requirements for entry. Placement auditions will be held the first weeks for classes. Signed agreement must be completed at registration. Go to Company Crew >

Fusion Company – minimum requirements:

Elite Company – minimum 5 dance hours per week required including:

Plus 3 additional classes: 2 technique class (ballet 2x/week counts as an additional technique class) and 1 dancer’s choice
